The blank page can be a scary place when you don’t know what you’re going to write about. That is why it is super important that you plan your blog posts ahead of time. Here’s what you can do to always have blog ideas ready to go.
Collect Blog Ideas
Have a place where you collect all the ideas that come to you out of the blue. Or maybe they are ideas that others have prompted you to write. These could be questions you get asked on a regular basis or straight forward “could you write a blog post about …?” requests.
Make sure it’s a method of collection that you can always have with you. Whether it’s a small notebook, your diary or maybe your smartphone, it really doesn’t matter.
Create an editorial calendar (or blog planner)
Every few months, put the ideas into your blog planner, also called an editorial calendar. This way, your only job is writing when it comes to creating your weekly blog post. You don’t have to think about what to write, the topic is already there for you.
For last week’s blog post, I created a free blog planner in pdf form for you to download. Here it is again, in case you missed it last week.

The blog planner will last for 3 months if you blog every week. If you only blog twice a month or monthly it will last longer. You can either print it out and keep it on your desk or notice board, or use Adobe Acrobat Reader’s Fill & Sign function to use it digitally. Just make sure you keep a clean copy as a template if you use it digitally.
Over to you
The beginning of the year is a great time to do your planning, so get it done now. Start collecting those ideas, download your blog planner and fill it in. Writing your blog posts will be so much easier if you do.
