SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and it consists of everything you can do to make sure your website ranks well in searches on the internet. Platforms like Google and others constantly change the rules, so get this right can be a bit like trying to hit a moving target, but if you keep a few basics right, your potential customers are going to find you when they look for your products and services.
What is involved in Search Engine Optimisation?
There are two basic types of SEO – on-page SEO and off-page SEO.
On-page SEO refers to everything you do on your website, such as content, user-friendliness, etc. In short, everything that makes your website appeal to users and search engines. This also includes how you use your keywords.
Off-page SEO is the other end, how your website appears out there on the web. Are there links coming back from relevant websites and pointing to your website, for instance. Is your website talked about elsewhere on the web, such as on Social Media channels? It’s all about links and community building.
You can build an amazing website, but if no-one finds it or even knows about it, all your efforts (and well earned money) are going to be wasted. This is what SEO is for. It makes sure that your website is found by the right people, for the right reasons. And that is why you have a website in the first place.
